History of the Town of Exeter New Hampshire Charles Henry Bell 9781230368795 Books Reviews
My wife had family that settled in this town at it's inception. So I ordered it to help with her genealogy. It not only was a great help but was an enjoyable read of the town's history.
This is a great book for anyone wanting to learn more about Colonial History in New England. Exeter was an important part of that history.
The ocr copy seems to have the least typos of all the early histories. The recalling of the settlement of New Hampshire area is the best description of the Mason Patent
A wealth of information regarding the early history of Exeter, NH from it's settlement to 1888. Lots of information about the settlement and development of the town. The book does contain a detailed table of contents as well as an index. There is some information from old Exeter records such as family registers, birth, marriage and death records which is contained in the final chapter of the book.
I thought this was going to be a novel-like history book.
It's not.
There are many pages of lists like who owned how much land, and whoever transcribed this from the handwritten original didn't always do the best job (I found my last name spelled several different ways), but this is a amazing resource for those looking into the early history of Exeter.
This is worth more than the price, and how cool is it that this can be downloaded? If your family was one of the early settlers of Exeter, or if you're just interested in this town's history, this is a must-have.
